Liberty Arts Proudly Presents…
The 9th Annual Iron Pour
Celebrating Almost A Decade and Reigniting IRON HEROES
Saturday, November 15th | 4:00pm-9:00pm
Durham Central Park
Durham, NC – Liberty Arts proudly presents the 9th Annual Iron Pour, a spectacular display of sculptural art making and a free community experience happening Saturday, November 15th from 4:00pm to 9:00pm in Durham Central Park. This year marks a special milestone, because the celebration expands to include an important fundraiser. When you attend the exciting evening of artmaking, art demos, fire spinning and batala drumming your donation will help reignite our beloved IRON HEROES and will allow Liberty Arts to continue our unique and inclusive programming.
IRON HEROES is a casting program designed to engage veterans and youth from traditionally underserved communities. The program provides access to creative outlets and expression through hands-on metal casting.
Inspired by a book by Joseph Campbell, Liberty Art artist Tripp Jarvis created the program around the theme of The Hero's Journey, in 2022 . The goal of the program is to encourage students who are new to sculpture to explore the creative territory of their imaginations and to call forth the hero that lies hidden in their daily lives and our intention is to bring it back in 2025.
About Iron Pour
“The purpose of this public event is to bring excitement and motivate everyone to immerse themselves in arts and the art-making processes.”
Every November since 2016, Mike Waller and Tripp Jarvis have led and participated in this free community event which takes place at Durham Central Park. More than 5,000 attendees are expected to watch teams of artists operate two furnaces that heat thousands of pounds of iron to unfathomable temperatures. Throughout the evening teams of artists and students from around North Carolina will gather to pour their own sculptural pieces along with iron tiles designed by community members during the Pour Square workshops.
Liberty Arts
Liberty Arts was founded in 2001, as a non-profit corporation dedicated to making art accessible to everyone. Our collective of artists have made some of the most iconic sculptures in Durham, the roster includes Major, the bronze bull who stands proudly at Durham’s Civic Plaza, who was created by Liberty Arts co-founder Mike Waller.
Liberty Arts believes that art practices, creative collaborations, and sustainable partnerships contributes to the overall well-being and fosters strong community connections in Durham and throughout The Triangle.
The Annual Iron Pour is our largest fundraising event, and your contribution allows us to reignite the IRON HEROES program and continue to provide year-round art education programming and exciting and free community events.
