liberty arts’ Glass department offers classes, rentals, demos, and team building opportunities that engage our community in glass blowing and flame working.

Classes

Liberty Arts offers a variety of beginner and intermediate classes in the Glass Department.

Make Your Owns - For a taste of the glass blowing/flame working experience. Students participate in making their own glass formed objects with the help of a glass instructor. Make Your Own objects rotate seasonally, including flowers, pumpkins, eggs, bowls, ghosts, and more. No experience required.

Introduction to Glass Blowing - In this three hour intro course, students will work in partnership with a skilled glass blower, and learn learn to make a glass object completely on their own by the end of the class. No experience required.

Beginner Glass Blowing - This 14 hour intensive—spread over 4 days—is designed for students who are considering pursuing glassblowing long term and want to take the first steps to making functional and art glass.

equipment rentals

Students that have documented experienced or have fulfilled required prerequisites can practice and create their glass art by renting one of our 2 large (20”) glory holes. For more information, please visit our Rentals Information page.

Demonstrations and Tours

Groups of students from local educational institutions and non profits are welcome to schedule tours of Liberty Arts’ facilities. Demonstrations in the Glass Hot Shop or Flameworking studio can also be arranged if scheduling allows. Liberty Arts large, public-access, “hot-shop” glassblowing studio. Resident artists also periodically offer classes in flameworking, glass fusion, and stained glass. The Glassblowing studio is managed by designer and artist Elijah Leed, and Liberty Arts Board Member Leigh Hayes. The glass blowing studio is a regional mecca for glass art enthusiasts of all kinds; whether you’re a commercial gaffer, hobbyist, novice or just an admirer of beautiful glass and the process by which it’s made.
