Iron pour & Iron Heroes kick off party - third friday

The Iron Pour Kick off Party is BACK ON after postponing due to weather. Join Liberty Arts on September 18th from 6 to 9 PM at the Foundry in Durham Central Park to celebrate all things Iron Pour!

We'll combine celebrations this month with the Iron Heroes Kick off Party! 

Join Liberty Arts and Alumni Iron Heroes as they celebrate the beginning of the Fall Iron Heroes Cohort, and raising money for future iterations of the program! Participate in your own mask making activities, shop merch, and learn more about the achievements of the students in this bi-annual program. PLUS! Observe or participate in the very first Relief Sculpture Workshop that will be part of the 10th Annual Iron Pour!

Metals to Petals & Scrap Sculptures - Fall Welding is here!

Sign up for either (or both!) of these welding workshops and get a beginner friendly introduction to MIG welding, plasma cutting, and basic metals fabrication. Plus, take home a sculptural memento of your learning process!

Flameworking: MYO Mini Glass Pumpkins

Learn to make your own mini glass pumpkin out of molten glass using a bench-top torch in this intro to Flameworking class. This class is perfect for beginners!

Hot Metal Cold Beer - September 4th

During this month's HMCB, choose from a selection of cast aluminum bowls, plates, and cups in different sizes. You'll customize the surface of your piece before watching it make its way to the foundry floor and become a one-of-a-kind aluminum casting.

Date Night - Make a Ring Together!

In this beginner friendly date night, students will learn how to make a ring from start to finish. Students will learn the following techniques:

-How to use the torch to anneal

-Hammer/ texturing techniques

-Forming a ring

-Intro to soldering and ring sizing

-Finishing and polishing with the flex shaft and bench polisher

Lost Wax Casting

In this two part class, students will learn how to cast a pre-made wax or 3D printed object using the Lost Wax method. Students may bring their own model to cast or use one provided.

Flameworking - Pumpkins, Paperweights, Pendants & Marbles

Working side-by-side with an experienced glassblower, students will get an up-close introduction to the mesmerizing art of hot glass. The class begins with a live demonstration showing the full process, followed by your turn to craft your pumpkin, paperweight, pendant or marble step by step.

STUDENT PROGRAMMING FOR THE IRON POUR

Each Fall, Liberty Arts collaborates with universities and schools during the lead up to the Annual Iron Pour. Students visit Liberty Arts studios for tours, demonstrations, and scratch block workshops. They learn all about the Iron Pour, and join us in November to participate or watch their artwork get cast in iron!

In celebration of the 10th Annual Liberty Arts Iron Pour, Liberty Arts is hosting an exhibition showcasing 10 years of tiles! If you have carved a scratch block with us as part of an Iron Pour or Aluminum Pour,  you can use the form below to submit your piece to be a part of this monumental exhibition. This is not a juried exhibition, so all work will be accepted until we reach maximum capacity. Work will be exhibited at Liberty Arts Studios during October Third Friday. We invite you to attend the opening reception!
