Iron Pour Papers: September

Let’s Stoke the Fire

Iron casting has always been my service to Liberty Arts, to the Durham community, and to society at large.
— Tripp Jarvis

Liberty Arts presents the ninth annual Iron Pour, a public artmaking experience, on Saturday, November 15th, in Durham Central Park.

Pour Squares

A traditional workshop gets a new name…

Pour Square workshops are fun and a great way to connect with community.

See Rachel and Terry’s Pour Square experience via the Rachel and Terry Do Stuff YouTube Channel.

Participants can sign up for Pour Square (scratch block) workshops throughout the fall and the workshops conclude November 15th.

Prices per block will increase as the date of the Pour approaches, but these first few batches will start at $50 per student as usual!

These spots fill up fast so don’t delay and sign up today!

REIGNITE IRON HEROES

Iron Pour is one of Durham’s largest events and is always free and open to the public.  And as our largest fundraiser when you make a small donation, are a local partner, or become a distinguished sponsor you are supporting our programming. Specifically, your Iron Pour contribution makes it possible for us to continue community programs like IRON HEROES and 3rd Friday events.

With this year’s pour we invite you to reignite the beloved IRON HEROES program, a vital initiative that has been on hiatus, your support allows us to bring the program back even better than it was before! To rekindle the program, we are launching a community fundraiser with the goal of $15,000.  Every contribution big and small will provide the essential elements including materials, the space, and the staff so that our community can continue to share their stories through art!

Please consider contributing to the 9th Annual Iron Pour and spreading the message so we can reach our goal and make a meaningful difference.

Breaking + DONATING Iron

Are you interested in supporting Liberty Arts, connecting with the community and releasing frustration in a fun way?  If so, we are looking for volunteers! There are many ways that your support can contribute to this year’s 9th Annual Iron Pour experience.

One exciting way is to join us every Tuesday to break down iron, or to donate iron - we use a lot!

If you are interested, or have questions please visit us at ironpour@libertyartsnc.org

Early Sign-Up

Though Iron Pour is free and open to the public, we encourage you to get your ticket(s) in advance.  Early sign-up is easy via The Liberty Arts EventBrite Page.

About Iron Pour

Every November since 2016, Liberty Arts has hosted a free public arts expereince in Durham Central Park. More than 3,000 attendees are expected to watch teams of artists operate three furnaces that heat thousands of pounds of iron to unfathomable temperatures. Throughout the evening, pour masters will create iron tiles designed during the poursquare workshops and sculptures made by various NC artists.

Accessibility Note

The site is wheelchair-accessible via Foster Street, with paved road/walkway surrounding the pour site. Some seating is available on park benches, with limited visibility to the pour site from these benches. For better visibility to the Pour, attendees can stand or sit on the grass or on paved areas closer to the pour site. There is more info about accessibility- here.

Stay in the loop with the Iron Pour Papers a limited monthly newsletter that focuses on all things relating to this fiery annual event.
