“It’s December, and nobody asked if I was ready.”
hello December
We warmly welcome, as they say, “the most wonderful time of the year”! December at Liberty Arts is a time for celebrating, learning, making and giving and we hope you will join us this month!
LEARN AT LIBERTY
Classes for All interests + all Levels
Welding 101
This class gives students an overview and better understanding of how a GMAW (MiG) welder works. This class also covers basic dismantling of the machine, changing of consumables, and how to preserve the machine while welding.
Intro to Glass Blowing
Working in partnership with a skilled glassblower, students will select a specific glass object and learn to make it completely on their own by the end of the class. Three important points to consider:
1. Prior glass blowing is not required
2. Eye protection will be provided as needed, and students should not wear loose-fitting clothes nor clothes made of synthetic fabric (this material melts easily).
3. Age limited: minimum age is 14 years old
Beginner Glass Open Studio
The purpose of this class is for students to improve skills acquired in Beginner Glassblowing class and learn new ones in a group/collaborative setting. This beginner open studio provides a supportive environment for students who are transitioning to independent rental time.
Intro to Jewelry: Stacking Rings
Students will learn how to make stacker rings from start to finish. Brass and copper are included in the material fee of $15, paid directly to instructor upon arrival. If students would prefer to work in silver or silver 14k gold filled, they can pay a class fee of $10 and purchase the metal directly from the instructor during class.
ART APPRECIATION
Meet the artist: Henry Lilly (Welding 101)
“Henry was the optimal teacher. He taught us the machinery, safety, and real-life applications. We spent the class having fun and enjoying the new experience of welding.”
I was born in Durham and have lived here my whole life. I started my interest in welding when I was in 4th grade when I took my first class making a metal animal. After high school I found myself enrolling in Durham techs welding certification program which I loved, with this more advanced knowledge in welding I didn’t want to leave it behind and am happy to be still able to go to a shop and help others learn this process. Currently I am still at Durham tech getting my associate’s degree in architectural technology.
