REGISTER HERE

In case you’ve never been to our Iron Pour, imagine a gritty ballet of dancers dressed in leathers, boots and helmets. They all have a role. They are all driven by the furnace and the Pour Master who is orchestrating this fiery show where sculptures and scratch blocks are poured. Once poured, the molten iron darkens and hardens into the beautiful tiles and pieces created by you and local artists.

Liberty Arts Studios & Foundry, Durham Central Park and The Forest at Duke present the 6th Annual public Iron Pour at Durham Central Park Saturday, November 5 from 4-9 p.m. All evening and into the night, 4,000 pounds of molten iron will be poured into molds, in an exciting fiery display creating the iron tiles made by the public and sculptures made by NC artists. Additionally, there will be Liberty Arts artists’ work for sale, Liberty Arts T-shirts, beer glasses and hand-blown glass pumpkins. Come enjoy drumming performances from Batalá Durham, Fire Breathers, kid-friendly events, local food trucks and craft beer while watching this very creative and gritty Durham event.

What’s a scratch block? Glad you asked! It’s a 6x6” square block of hardened sand, with a 1/2” deep indentation. You scratch and carve a design, creating a pattern. We then pour molten aluminum into it and about 30 minutes later your aluminum relief tile is ready to take home.

Come with a specific design in mind or just arrive and wing it; we’ve seen both approaches work beautifully. We have all the tools and instruction you’ll need for fun and success.

Attending the event is free, scratch blocks are $75 each.

** Rain date is June 4th **

Feast From the Funace

A unique Liberty Arts fundraiser - glass blowing and gourmet food- plus, take home a handblown glass flower to celebrate the advent of Spring.

Glass blowing demonstrations by Durham-based designer Elijah Leed. Watch as he makes beautiful hand-blown glass art while you sip wine and feast on a series of small plate foods cooked in the same furnace. The evening will kickoff with a glass of wine and a leisurely tour of the Liberty Arts studio where you can interact with some of our very talented artists and browse the art they create.

This one-of-a-kind fundraising dining event is one you won’t want to miss.

Tickets available here.

Your chef for the evening will be James Cundiff. James has been cooking in restaurants for over 20 years from the deep south to the Northeast, and is the Executive Chef at the Willard in the AC Hotel, downtown Raleigh. James studied at the Culinary Institute of America and finds inspiration in preparing plant-based dishes.

James has developed a special Mediterranean menu for this "spring-themed", cooking and dining experience. Not all foods cook well at 1500-2000 degrees!

You'll depart the event having had a unique culinary experience, a handmade glass flower to remember it by and be much more knowledgeable about the glassblowing process.

NOTE: For Covid safety, all attendees must be fully vaccinated and boosted and will be asked to show evidence upon entry. We are also limiting the number of tickets for this Feast.
