Relief Sculpture workshops for the 10th annual iron pour

NEW for the Iron Pour this year! Relief sculpture workshops introduce students to the fundamentals of relief sculpture by using oil-based sculpting clay.

After class, the Liberty Arts foundry team will transform each sculpture into a bonded sand mold behind the scenes, preparing it for iron casting. Return on November 14th to watch your mold be cast in molten iron!

Frequently asked questions

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

A full refund will be given if cancellation occurs more than 7 days before the date of the class. A partial refund of 50% will be given if cancellation occurs between 7 days and 72 hours (3 days) before the date of the class. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds for cancellations that occur within 72 hours (3 days) of the class. Any rescheduling requests made after 72 hours will be reviewed by the instructor, but cannot be guaranteed. Contact us at info@libertyartsnc.org for cancellation/rescheduling requests.

What is recommended attire?

Closed-toed shoes are required. Many classes have clothing requirements for safety reasons - please check your class description for details. In general, if your class involves heat or flame (welding, glassblowing, etc), you should wear long sleeves/pants and clothing made of natural fibers. When specialized safety items such as glasses or helmets are required, they will be provided for you.

How do I find my class?

Most classes take place at our studio building at 918 Pearl St. At the intersection of Mallard and Pearl St you will see an open chain link gate in front of a brick warehouse. Drive inside the gate, turn right, and park in the spaces at the end of the building. Walk up the ramp to the front door you already drove past. The door is grey and says "Entrance" above the awning. Unless otherwise noted, your instructor will let you in at this door.

Some casting classes take place at the Liberty Arts Foundry at 528 Foster Street (in Durham Central Park). Street parking is available on the surrounding streets.

Is there heating/AC?

The majority of our warehouse building does not have heating or AC. Dress in layers, and prepare for heat/cold depending on the season!

Can children attend the classes?

Most classes are either adults-only, or age 14 and up. Check the class description for details. If your child age 14-18 will attend, in general we would recommend that a parent either enrolls in the class with them, or stays nearby while the class is taking place.

The class I want to take is full. What can I do?

Most classes have a wait list feature to add your contact info if a space opens up. Wait lists are first-come, first served, so respond quickly if you get an email that there is space! Most classes are also offered on a repeating basis - you can check for a future date.

There’s only one spot left, but I want to attend with a friend. What can I do?

Email us at info@libertyartsnc.org. Some classes (not all!) might be able to squeeze in one additional person.
