Want to Join THE STUDIO?

Dedicated to supporting visual artists and Durham’s creative community, Liberty’s Studio program is a cohort of 10-15 practicing artists who rent individual studio spaces in a warehouse setting. If you are looking for an inspiring place to create and share ideas you've come to the right place! The cohort provides a team environment for artists to flourish, collaborate, and grow while supporting Liberty’s mission; “To create experiences that enhance artistic growth and community building through creative practice and collaboration.”

To apply for studio space you’ll submit your resume, an artist statement or description of intended studio use, and 3-5 images of your work. Consider the following qualities which sustain our cohort program:

  • Artistic Creativity-Skillset: At Liberty Arts, we value artistic creativity and skillset. We seek visual artists who demonstrate a strong artistic vision, originality, and technical proficiency in their chosen medium.

  • Passion for the Arts: We are looking for practicing artists who are deeply committed to their craft and understand the importance of the creative process and community building. Your enthusiasm and dedication to the artmaking process inspire others to contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of the studio space.

  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: As an artist, adaptability and problem- solving skills are essential in navigating the ever-evolving creative landscape. Liberty Arts values artists who embrace challenges, think critically and find innovative solutions.

  • Teamwork and collaboration: At Liberty Arts, we place great importance on collaboration and teamwork within our artistic community. Our aim is to create an environment that encourages artists to inspire and learn from each other. We highly value artists who can effectively collaborate, share ideas, and offer constructive feedback. One of the qualities we look for in our artists is the ability to work well with others. We seek individuals who are respectful, open-minded, and supportive of their fellow artists. We believe that artists who contribute positively to the studio's atmosphere, engage in meaningful conversations, and foster a sense of camaraderie are an asset to our community.

  • Teaching & engaging with the public: If you have teaching experience or a strong interest in sharing your skills and techniques with others, we would love to hear about it!
