Phil Freelon's design achievements include cultural, civic and academic projects for some of America’s most respected cultural institutions. He is an Obama appointee to the National Commission of Fine Arts, a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and a recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture. Phil believes that it is very important for each of us to experience beautiful, inspiring art in our everyday lives. Sculpture can be a link between the fine arts and the built environment, particularly when the pieces are created to occupy urban spaces. Phil was the independent juror of the Bull City Sculpture Show in Durham in 2014.
